The biggest UFC fight is upon us!
On October 6, at UFC 229, former two-division champion Conor McGregor will be facing undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The Khabib vs. McGregor match-up is one of the most anticipated fights in the UFC and the entire world of combat sports this year. To celebrate, Nitrogen Sports has a big promotion that fits perfectly for such a big event.
We’re going to be honest, we haven’t been this excited about a UFC Fight in a LONG time. The anticipation for this fight has been years in the making, the disdain that these two incredible athletes have for each other is palpable and the energy surrounding this matchup (and the whole card for that matter) is through the roof.
Beyond that even, it’s stratospheric.
I can’t remember the last time an MMA fight has been so long in the making, complete with more drama, and between two completely different style of fighters and personality types. Both the best in the world in two different facets of fighting. The pre-fight hype is all but done, the talking is about to stop, and two trained mercenaries are about to get locked in a cage together.
The Case For Khabib Nurmagomedov
For McGregor, the UFC 229 betting odds are a simple case of “What have you done for me lately?” As much as the Irishman’s legend has grown over the past five years, while he was busy earning nine figures fighting (and losing to) Floyd Mayweather Jr. inside the squared circle, Nurmagomedov was holding court inside the Octagon. “The Eagle” ran his lifetime MMA record to 26-0 with back-to-back decisions over Edson Barboza and Al Iaquinta, easily beating the latter to win the vacant Lightweight championship.
There aren’t many fighters who can match Nurmagomedov’s accomplishments. Before he made his UFC debut in 2012, the Russian native was a champion in both pankration and Combat Sambo. Nurmagomedov comes from both a fighting family and a fighting culture in Dagestan; he started training under his father Abdulmanap at age 8, and his cousin Abubakar is a welterweight in the Professional Fighters League. Nurmagomedov was born to do this. McGregor rather played soccer as a kid before taking up boxing at age 12.
Why Bet on Conor McGregor
Having said that, McGregor has grown by leaps and bounds since then. He fell in with the right people when he started training under John Kavanagh 10 years ago at Straight Blast Gym. Kavanagh is an Irish MMA pioneer, with 2nd-degree Black belts in both karate and Brazilian jiu-jitsu; that versatility has been passed down to his students, including both McGregor and Gunnar Nelson. Their hybrid fighting style is very difficult to prepare for.
The Khabib vs. McGregor odds may also be giving Nurmagomedov too much credit. He’s proven himself worthy against second-tier competition, but “The Eagle” has yet to face any of the topmost fighters in the Lightweight division. McGregor, on the other hand, has tested himself against the best of the best – and continues to push the envelope. Fighting Nate Diaz twice in the Welterweight division, and even facing Mayweather, have given McGregor broad and valuable big-fight experience that Nurmagomedov still lacks.
Only one man will exit victorious
I know I’ll personally be taking some action on the McGregor vs Khabib fight as well as a couple other of the main events.
Hell, come fight time with some beers in me I’ll probably get reckless and take some retarded bets but that’s neither here nor there..

Khabib (26–0–0), who is from Russia, is known more for his impressive ground game and having a granite chin. Khabib is also aggressive, and despite him always going forward, he has never been knocked out. The Russian is undefeated in 26 fights and has eight knockouts and eight submissions under his belt.
But if there’s one fighter that can give Khabib his first loss, it would be the popular and oftentimes loud and boisterous McGregor (21–3–0), who has 18 knockouts and 1 submission in his 21 wins in his mixed martial arts career. The Irishman last fought in the UFC two years ago, when he faced Eddie Alvarez and won via KO in just two rounds.
